Jasper Morris: 92-95 Points

A brilliant crisp clear purple. The bouquet takes me back right across my 40 years of Denis Bachelet wines. This is brilliantly sensual across the palate yet with more generosity and less rigid structure than the wines of 15 years ago. But this I love!.

Burghound: 90-92 Points

A softly oaked nose consists of slightly cooler aromas of red currant newly turned earth humus and a whiff of the sauvage. There is a bit more volume and mid-palate concentration to the more mineral-inflected flavors that deliver slightly better depth and persistence on the impeccably well-balanced finale. This is a very fine Gevrey villages that is well worth considering. (Drink starting 2029)

Vinous: 90-92 Points

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes matured in around 50% new oak has a dense blackberry and briar nose with undergrowth and iris flower touches. The palate has a firm backbone quite tight at the moment (maybe because as Bachelet points out it's a leaf day) and a gentle grip with a tightly wound yet fresh saline finish. I would afford this two or three years in bottle. (Drink between 2027-2045)

Wine Advocate: 90-92 Points

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is fleshy and gourmand bursting with aromas of cherries cassis sweet spices orange rind and peony. Medium to full-bodied seamless and enveloping with powdery tannins and a saline finish it's beautifully balanced. The 2022 vintage is another great success for Denis Bachelet and his son Nicolas distinguished by its purity and charm. And it marks at last a return to somewhat normal yields at this address. I've been tasting from barrel here for a decade and the approach hasn't changed: old vines destemmed berries and gentle extraction followed by élevage in barrels of which up to 30%?for the Charmes-Chambertin?are new and most of which derive from Tonnellerie Rémond. As I have reported in the past Bachelet has been punching down less since the 2014 vintage evolving in the direction of finesse and structural suppleness without sacrificing depth or incipient complexity.
