Not surprisingly this is aromatically similar to the Jarrons though with more floral influence. There is however notably better mid-palate density to the beautifully textured flavors thanks to the mouthcoating dry extract that also serves to buffer the firm tannic spine shaping the powerful moderately austere and hugely long finish. I would strongly advise not opening a bottle for at least a decade and this should ultimately repay 12 to 15 years of keeping. (Drink starting 2033)
More crimson than purple. What a high-class nose I just want to keep smelling it. The 2021 Dominode depicts a brilliant sense of balance with the fruit coming across in waves good acidity some orange notes within the strawberry fruit long and very stylish. Drink from 2026-2031.
bhFrom a parcel planted in 1902 the 2021 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode is performing superbly exhibiting aromas of sweet red berries petals orange rind licorice and spices. Medium to full-bodied ample and satiny this charming layered wine exudes a sense of effortlessness. I'd heard murmurings of a renaissance at Domaine Bruno Clair for some time so this year I made a point of visiting. Evolution has indeed been underway: farming is now very close to organic across the 24-hectare estate; yields are being limited more strictly in the younger parcels; cover crops are the order of the day with the frequency of cultivation reduced; trees are being incorporated within all new plantings; and now in the winery whole clusters are being systematically retained in significant percentages and the frequency of punching down reduced. What are the results? The pure-fruited style of the domaine which doesn't push ripeness or percentages of new oak remains very much intact but even in 2021 more intensity of flavor and more expressive fruit already appears to be apparent. This was a very pretty set of wines and I look forward to following vintages to come. Published: Jan 31 2023
