The 2017 Clos St. Jacques was also still a bit grumpy about being tasted but all of the pieces are in place here for a great wine down the road. The bouquet was spot on at the time of my visit and truly beautiful offering up scents of sappy red and black cherries a brambly touch of black raspberry grilled meats dark soil tones woodsmoke a lovely spice element and spicy oak. On the palate the wine is more closed than any of the other premier crus in the cellar today with excellent mid-palate depth ripe well-integrated tannins and impressive length and grip on the still very primary finish. I am sure this will be a great wine. 2028-2065+.
