Planted in 1983 at the same time as the Griottes. Rich dense purple. The bouquet has a perfect balance of ripeness and freshness altogether denser and slightly riper than Jeunes Rois. Gorgeously but not obstreperously ripe fruit fresh dark raspberry seamless on the palate and then a fine mineral finish.
This superb value is an extraordinary find ? it is essentially a continuation of the domaine's Griotte-Chambertin since there is no separation between the two and the rows go straight through. The oldest vines were planted in 1923; they are pruned to six bunches per vine yielding just 15 ? 18 hl/ha. Pierre Duroché makes just one barrel of Aux Etelois and the remaining grapes here (a half hectare in total) are blended in the village Gevrey. (Drink between 2027 - 2055)
This year there are two barrels of the lovely 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Etelois a medium to full-bodied broad and enveloping red redolent of wild berries peonies orange zest and baking spices. Supple and seamless it's built around melting tannins and concludes with a saline finish. Pierre Duroché has produced another superlative set of wines in 2022.
