This wine is compellingly lovely particularly for a village-level bottling. The climat of Les Etalois is just below the band of grand crus and the 0.40 hectares of Rossignol-Trapet are between Domaine Duroché and the Charmes-Chambertin holding of Domaine Roty. In 2022 it yielded a wine with a deep ruby colour and a lovely rich cassis fruit aroma scented with spice and smoke. The texture is supple dense and pleasantly persistent. The wine is currently ageing in cask (20% new) and should be ready to drink fairly soon and will easily continue to improve in bottle for a decade or more. (Drink between 2027-2065)
An even glowing ruby colour with a riper more exotic nose than the Gevrey Vieilles Vignes. Ripe cherries are part of the fruit mix. Some white peppers at the back this is engagingly complete with good length and still a couple of tannins to resolve ? very promising.
A perfumed and pretty nose is more floral in scope with its range of rose petal lavender and lilac scents on the ripe yet cool essence of black pinot fruit aromas. The refined even lilting flavors are nearly as powerful but they offer even better minerality on the youthfully austere and long finish where a similar hint of warmth slowly emerges. This is also impressive for its level. (Drink starting 2030)
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Etelois has a lovely bouquet more cohesive and purer than the Vieilles Vignes perfumed red cherries and wild strawberry laced with wet limestone. The medium-bodied palate is fresh and quite forward with light tannins. It?s a little fleshier towards the finish with an appreciable "bite.? Give this a couple of years in bottle. (Drink between 2026-2036)
