From En Charlemagne ex Domaine Laleure Piot. A healthy crop the last picked on 3rd September with six barrels made two of them new wood. A powerful incisive white fruit bouquet with oak showing in the little coconut notes behind. Lemon scented minerals to finish. At this stage a little hard to see into the complete wine but I think there is plenty here for a long-term future.
bhFresh and ripe aromas are comprised by notes of citrus confit spice and just sliced green apple plus a discreet dollop of wood. There is borderline painful intensity to the dense serious and palate staining medium weight flavors that are overtly mineral-driven on the tautly muscular and hugely long finish. Once again more depth would be a plus but that should only be a matter of patience. (Drink starting 2032).
he 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from the Pernand side of the hill and is matured in 40% new oak. It has a well-defined bouquet with well-integrated new wood allowing the terroir to come through. Hints of wild peaches and yellow flowers. The well-balanced palate has good weight and a slightly honeyed texture harmonious with good length and a little creaminess towards the finish. Good potential. Like the 2021 there will be two cuvées of this one released after one winter in barrel and the other after two winters. (Drink between 2027 - 2042)
