A hint of wood influence is present here as well on the slightly spicier and more floral-suffused nose of mostly red berries and soft earth. The elegance of the nose contrasts moderately with the beautifully textured yet decidedly firm powerful and very serious finale that coats the palate with sappy dry extract. In the context of what is typical for this wine it's a decidedly robust example. (Drink starting 2034)
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Fonteny 1er Cru has red and black fruit on the nose with hints of dried violet petals and sous-bois percolating through with time in the glass. The palate is quite closed at the moment but the energy and balance are clear to see. The rather grippy finish suggests it will age well in bottle. It's very promising but patience is needed. (Drink between 2027 - 2045)
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos du Fonteny suffered from the drought and its ongoing issues with leaf roll virus so yields are low and the resulting wine is quite structured and serious offering up aromas of sweet cherries plums and smoke followed by a medium to full-bodied deep and dense palate.
