DuMol Exceptional Chardonnay & Pinot Noirs
Russian River Stars
DuMol Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are easily some of the most compelling and delicious wines from the Russian River Valley and Green Valley in Sonoma. For the past 28 years, Andy Smith and his team have worked hand-in-hand with some of the oldest and most noted vineyards in the region. This combined with the vineyards that DuMol created on their own are now bearing the fruit of their labors and the results have been nothing short of outstanding.
Dedicated to high density plantings, the vineyards that Smith developed are some of the most interesting in Sonoma and have the greatest resemblance to those in Burgundy. Higher density plantings result in smaller vines, lower to the ground, small berries and more concentration of fruit. These vineyards demand more hand labor and tending, a concept that Smith and his team fully embrace.
The early days of DuMol meant that Smith had to rely on grapes from existing vineyards. Those early years laid the foundation of the partnerships between growers and DuMol that continue strong today. The farming in these non-estate vineyards are done in conjunction with the DuMol team and have proven to harness some of the most noted wines from historic vineyards such as Charles Heintz.
The range at DuMol while focused on the vineyard first provides a series of wines that takes some of these older high quality sites and blends them to capture the best identity of the vintage for a particular sub-zone of Sonoma’s Russian River Valley. The Chloe Chardonnay and Ryan Pinot Noir are two examples of multi-site wines that absolutely excelled in the 2022 vintage.
Overall, the 2022 vintage is a terrific set of wines at DuMol and we are excited to be able to offer both single vineyard and multi-site expressions from this marvelous collection of wines.
Cheers,
