Best Chardonnays of the Year
Ten of the best West Coast Chardonnay we have tasted so far this year!
These are tremendous bottles that are delivering a great glass of wine now and are poised to reward those that continue to hold them in the cellar for the next few years to come.
Matt Courtney continues to excel with Chardonnay at Arista bringing that deft touch he honed at Marcassin to Russian River Chardonnay.
Gavin Chanin’s expression of Sanford & Benedict is one of our all-time favorites! The lemon and floral character combined with the salty oyster shell intensity just makes this wine explosive.
Seth Morgen, the one man winery, only produces Chardonnay and his exploration and take on Chardonnay compelled John Gilman to dub Seth the “Roulot of Oregon.”
Tony Biaggi is not only a master with Cabernet Sauvignon, but also Chardonnay. His take is pure Cali-richness and boldness with everything perfectly in place and above all lively and delicious.
Paul Lato continues to produce Chardonnay from the Santa Rita Hills that impresses us for its texture, depth and grace.
David Ramey and his family continue to be one of the most consistent and important producers of single vineyard Chardonnay in Sonoma. These are some of the finest wines from Ramey in recent years, whose multi-vineyard blend landed in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 last year.
Ken Pahlow and Eric Landon anchor our list once again with two of our favorite Chardonnays yet again. Here the dramatic difference between vineyards is wonderful to experience in these A+ wines that are easily best compared to the diversity of top Burgundy.
But don’t just take our word on these wines, just look at all the tremendous praise that each of these wines have accumulated thus far!
Cheers,
