The Lucille is a flashy Chardonnay, a flex of sorts by Ken Pahlow and Erica Landon of Walter Scott. With full malo and 75% new oak, this wine pulsates with energy and verge. Chipped flint aromatics and briny oyster shells embrace the reductive winemaking at hand, framing dusty lemon drop and a touch of lime pith. A savoury depth of the grilled lemon peel, seawater and crushed stone. The mouthwatering acids embrace the thirst-slaking citrus zest and (Drink between 2024-2038)

A vibrant straw/silver color the 2021 Chardonnay Lucille was just released in March and comes from the oldest vines on a hanging trellised site of Freedom Hill Vineyard. It?s expressive on the nose with notes of lemon curd pithy citrus quince and a touch of tropical flowers as well as a light powdery feel and a note of dewy wet stone. It fills the palate with a fantastic richness of intensity and it?s long on the palate with a wonderful long pithy feel that has real structure and toasty incense on the finish. It will last 10-15 years in cool cellars. 115 cases were produced.

The 2021 Chardonnay Lucille is intense with a burst of reduction that blows off to reveal an array of dried peaches and apricots savory herbs and exotic spices. It?s soothingly round nearly oily in texture with ripe orchard fruits guided by brisk acidity leaving a saturation of salty minerality toward the close. This finishes with teeth-chattering tension?crunchy and long with a citrusy concentration and ample structure. - By Eric Guido on May 2024 Ken Pahlow and Erica Landon of Walter Scott will do whatever it takes to deliver the highest-quality wine and the best representation of any given vintage. Pahlow went into great detail to explain what he believed to be the best way to deal with mildew issues from the cool and rainy spring burned buds from the frost an abundant crop due to the hot summer and finally the dry and hot conditions leading up to harvest. While many growers and winemakers were happy with the large crop set that resulted from the later flowering and seco

The Chardonnay Lucille named after Erica Landon and Ken Pahlow's daughter is a barrel selection made only in the best vintages (so far just 2019 and 2021). This iteration comes entirely from the old California sprawl vines in the Freedom Hill Vineyard a block that father and daughter have walked together since Lucy was very young. The 2021 Chardonnay Lucille demands time and air. Flint and matchstick slowly give way to pie crust and spice but at this stage it's the palate that offers a glimpse of the wine's real potential. Luscious layers of white peach meringue brioche almonds and honey coat the mouth while its shimmery acidity and flinty accents balance its depth of flavor and result in a tense ethereal finish. It deserves several years in the cellar. Published: Feb 29 2024
