The 2019 Clos de la Hutte is the site that spoke to Boudignon when he arrived in Savennières. Once the site of a monastery it's not yet a religious experience drinking this but it's not got far to go: there's a sense of expansion in the mouth followed by impressive structure showing its serious intentions and a sense that it's good enough to eat. There's an intriguing white floral note alongside pear followed up with energetic acidity. Excellent texture and sapidity on the finish providing length and structure. This wine has it all: delicacy and power structure and refinement. Unfortunately frosts in 2019 were not kind so there is very little of it to go around. (Drink between 2021-2035)
vFrom solid schist and vinified in equal parts in 350- and 500-liter barrels (15% new) Boudignon's iconic 2019 Savennières Clos de la Hutte opens with a deep ripe and intense yet still pure refined and refreshing mineral bouquet with fascinating notes of crushed crystalline rocks and lemons. Tight and pure on the palate this is an intense and complex yet still firm and almost austere Chenin from eight-year-old massal selections. The wine is dramatic but also finessed and ends with a firm and grippy but stimulatingly salty and elegant finish that indicates excellent potential for aging and further development. This is even more rare than normal due to the 2019 spring frosts. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2022.
