This 12.5 acre vineyard resides on a steep hillside so it can withstand more rain than some of the other vineyards. Mon-testefano is the “Barolo” of the single vineyard Barbaresco reserves from Produttori del Barbaresco. Its meaty structure and thickness on the palate makes it an excellent aging wine. The first vintage of Montestefano was produced in 1974.

Bouquet of dark ripe fruit entices the nose as the wine is Full-bodied and rich on the palate with a powerful finish."

Wine Enthusiast: 96 Points

Cellar Selection Forest floor red-skinned berry leather and tobacco aromas mingle with a balsamic note. The focused structured palate delivers juicy Morello cherry raspberry compote and licorice while a graphite note backs up the finish. A backbone of fine-grained tannins and bright acidity gives it an age-worthy structure. Drink 2021?2034. - Kerin O'Keefe

Vinous: 95+ Points

One of the many highlights in this range the Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is superb. A big enrobing wine the Montestefano wraps around the palate with stunning depth. Today the Montestefano is utterly embryonic and yet it exudes depth resonance and pure class. The Montestefano is one of the more complete wines in the range because of the way it deftly balances fruit intensity and structure. Readers will have to be patient though.

Wine Spectator: 94 Points

Pure cherry flavors permeate the rich flesh of this red backed by vibrant acidity and fine tannins. Eucalyptus earth and tar elements add depth as this cruises to a lingering finish. Fine intensity. Best from 2021 through 2040. 1183 cases made 277 cases imported.

Wine Advocate: 93 Points

This is visibly the darkest in color and concentration of this series of wines from the well-known Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative. The 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano offers round and supple fruit with dark cherry blackberry and some easy spice. Once again the wine is a bit flatter than I had hoped lacking that extra level of snappy freshness.
