Very ripe and with good sensorial predisposition it shows notes of black plums wild violets juniper berries black cherries cinchona and guarana. Full body very ripe and well-polished tannins and a finish of great momentum and progression Better from 2026." - 95/100 Raffaele Vecchione - WinesCritic.com
Highly Recommended - This juicy red delivers raspberry cherry pomegranate underbrush iron and rose hip aromas and flavors. Firm powdery tannins and lively acidity take over by the finish keeping this well-defined and long. Best from 2026 through 2042. 850 cases made 425 cases imported. Published on October 15 2024
The 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva Bugialla is another superb offering from Poggerino. Dark virile and strapping in nature the 2021 is a big dramatic wine. Macerated black cherry licorice dried herbs lavender and spice are all amplified in the glass. The 2021 spent two years in cask all of which it needed. This is another terrific set of wines from Piero Lanza at Poggerino. Lanza is among the growers who have taken an existing family estate and elevated quality meaningfully. Readers will find transparent nuanced wines that capture the essence of Radda. Aging in cement and neutral large-format oak allow these wines to be quite expressive and distinctive. ?Two thousand twenty-one was marked by huge diurnal shifts? Lanza told me during my most recent visit. ?I remember we picked fruit at 3°C (37.4°F) that year quite a contrast to 2022.? - By Antonio Galloni on June 2024
The Bugialla vineyard was planted in the mid-1970s. Stony shale soil with underpinnings of clay gives sturdy structure particularly to this bottling which is crafted from a selection of small berries. The warm south- to southwest exposure coaxes out ample ripeness yet there is such a prettiness of fragrance in the 2021 that almost belies its power. Plum blossom dark cherry cinnamon and mocha tantalise the nose. On the palate the richness and volume of fruit is in full evidence. Warming but lovely in texture its confident dry chalky tannins keep this in check. Tasted by: Michaela Morris
