Philippe Melka has worked with this earlier-ripening Pritchard Hill site farmed by Mike Wolf since 2008. The soils are iron-like and a big replant occured about 10 years ago. Incredibly giving nose of dense dark black-toned fruits tinged with black olive. On the palate the wine boasts deep concentration but through a distinct vein of freshness making it almost too easy to drink. Black and blue-toned fruits creme-de-cassis and wild savoury herbs round out this lavish red boasting fine-grained tannins and a finished marked by crushed stones and earth. (Drink between 2022-2038)
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Martinez Vineyard is a deep plush wine that expresses all of the natural radiance and lushness of this site atop Napa Valley's Pritchard Hill District. Super-ripe red cherry plum mocha licorice and spice build in the glass. The 2019 is succulent plush and inviting not to mention so delicious. (Drink between 2025-2039)
Another rich powerful wine the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Martinez Vineyard has serious blackcurrant dark plum chocolate violet iron and Asian spice notes as well as full-bodied power and richness on the palate. A rich powerful lifted perfumed wine it's going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and have two decades of longevity. The blend is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon 7% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.
dComposed of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cabernet Franc the 2019 Metisse Martinez is a barrel sample with a deep garnet-purple color. It comes barreling out of the glass with powerful notes of crème de cassis plum preserves and black raspberries with hints of crushed rocks tobacco leaf charcoal and iron ore. The full-bodied palate is built like a brick house with a core of rich ripe fruits and firm velvety tannins finishing long and harmonious. Published: Mar 18 2021
