James Suckling: 94 Points

"Roederer's 2008 vintage is all class and refinement with layered aromas from the get-go. Grilled nuts lemon zest and pith plus subtle spiced fresh bready notes - very youthful and fresh. The palate rolls out powerful and smooth lemon citrus flavors with some red berries building through the second phase. Contained dry succulent and a wonderful journey of texture here. Drink now or for more than five years. A great vintage for Roederer."

Since the 2006 release this cuvée has been slowly moving towards being a Blanc de Noirs (with the Pinot Noir coming from the northern Montagne de Reims focussed on Verzenay and Verzy). The remaining 30% is drawn from east-facing plots in Chouilly (northern Cote des Blancs). A wine with understated potency this Champagne is complex and long showing fine toast and pumped up fruit. Probably nearing its ideal drinking window in bottle magnums are on a slightly different maturation curve being a little austere and backward (score here is for bottle magnums are one point higher on potential).

Wine Advocate: 93 Points

"From a "beautiful vintage" (JB Lécaillon) the 2008 Vintage Brut offers a very precise and refined nose of sweet cherries and lemons. Broad and round on the palate with orange and lemon flavors this full-bodied full-flavored yet very precise 70/30 Pinot and Chardonnay blend reveals great purity vitality finesse and a persistent finish. Sourced from clay soils in Verzy and Verzenay (Pinot) as well as Chouilly the dry and intense 2008 reveals a remarkable transparency and definition. In fact this cuvée seems to fly over the palate but also coats it with an elegant and harmonious fruit. Forty percent of the wine was fermented in oak and 20% underwent malolactic fermentation. This is a very good value." -Stephan Reinhardt

Vinous: 93 Points

The 2008 Brut races across the palate with gorgeous depth and resonance. Dried pear spice mint anise and wild flowers meld together in the glass. Broad ample and voluptuous the 2008 possesses fabulous richness in all dimensions. Beams of acidity and minerality give the 2008 much of its energy and freshness but the style is all about pure texture.

Wine Spectator: 93 Points

"Elegant and harmonious with bright acidity enlivening the refined and creamy mousse and flavors of pastry creamed pear crushed blackberry spun honey and slivered almond. A streak of chalky mineral resonates through the wine and lingers on the finish. Drink now through 2028."
