50% whole bunch as there was not enough space in the tanks for more. This may not have developed much bouquet yet but is multilayered on the palate with dark berries then some red fruit an occasional chocolate note a bit of white pepper and fine persistence. No marked acidity. Should be accessible soon and will be lovely.
jmFrom vines planted in the 1970s at the top of the slope above the Clos des Lambrays Lignier's 2022 Morey-Saint-Denis En La Rue de Vergy offers up notes of cherries red berries licorice and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied bright and mineral it's a pure refined wine whose ethereal style reflects its origins. This was my first visit to this 12-hectare domaine in Morey-Saint-Denis where the estate's holdings are complemented by some carefully chosen négociant exchanges and acquisitions. Virgile Lignier is an adept of whole bunches and looks for gentle extraction during vinification followed by maturation in increasingly discreet cooperage. I left impressed by a winery that's clearly made appreciable progress over the last few years delivering a range of sauve fleshy 2022s with good depth and balance. Published: Jan 18 2024
