This is a wine of solid quality with a limpid purity of fruit and exquisite balance. There are forward engaging aromas of ripe apple and citrus fruit with a soft floral note that suggests hawthorn flowers. There is plenty of fresh crisp acidity on the palate and the wine has a firm mineral underpinning but everything is in lovely balance. It is produced from a 0.23-hectare parcel on southeast-facing slopes high on the hill just north of the Clos des Mouches but Lafarge produced only one barrel in this disastrous vintage. (Drink between 2025-2035)
This is at once ultra-fresh and ultra-cool with its restrained and slightly smoky aromas of just sliced apple pear and a background floral whiff. There is notably more minerality suffusing the tension-filled medium-bodied flavors that possess a certain mid-palate succulence while retaining fine cut and precision on the chiseled very dry and lingering finale. This is lovely and also quite understated in style. (Drink starting 2026)
Notes of pear peach white flowers and buttery pastry introduce the 2021 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Aigrots Blanc a medium-bodied taut and racy wine of which only one barrel was produced.
One barrel only. Ripe fruit a touch of bacon fat then white stone fruit across the palate. Surprising depth behind with excellent acidity. Not quite a classical balance but there is a lot of wine here. Promising. Drink from 2025-2029.
There is one barrel of the 2021 Beaune Clos des Aigrots 1er Cru Blanc this year whereas usually there are five. It has an attractive well-defined bouquet with dried honey grilled walnut and light fumé scents. The palate is well balanced with fine depth and more complexity than Lafarge's Meursault with a judicious touch of spice on the finish. Worth seeking out. (Drink between 2023-2038)
