Bohan Vineyards on the Sonoma Coast has some fine old pinot noir vines, as the vineyard was planted all the way back in 1972. Jamie Kutch makes a beautiful wine from these old vines and his 2021 Bohan Vineyard cuvée is exceptional, coming in at and even thirteen percent octane and including fifty percent whole clusters this year. The bouquet is deep and precise, wafting from the glass in a lovely blend of red and black cherries, pomegranate, raw cocoa, woodsmoke, a complex base of dark soil, sweet stem tones, peonies and just a touch of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is bright, tangy and full-bodied, with a lovely core of sappy fruit, fine mineral drive and grip, fine-grained tannins and a long, complex and seamlessly balanced finish. This is a beautiful bottle in the making. (Drink between 2031-2075)

13% alcohol. Three miles from the Pacific at 1400 ft elevation this is a vineyard planted in 1972 on Goldridge soils 50% whole bunch. There’s a lovely spicy savoury intensity here with sweet black cherry fruit and some lush blackberry notes. So many layers of spice tar dried herbs black cherries and then some nice firm grippy tannins. There’s density here but also elegance. Potential to age here but there???s already enough silkiness to the palate to make this pleasurable now. 95/100

The 2021 Pinot Noir Bohan Vineyard is rich pliant and super-expressive. Succulent red cherry spice leather blood orange cedar and incense fill out the layers nicely. This pliant beautifully resonant Pinot has a ton to offer. (Drink between 2024-2035)
