Vinous: 91-93 Points
The 2021 Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast) emerges from a parcel on the Bohan ranch planted in 1972. Airy and effusive the 2021 offers up scents of lemon confit white pepper and dried flowers all in a delicate understated style that is super appealing. This gracious Chardonnay is a total charmer. It was great to stop by and see Jamie Kutch's new estate vineyard just outside Sebastopol. Kutch fans will want to take a close look at the 2021s. Yields are down 60-70% in 2022 while 2020 saw the release of just one Pinot the McDougall. Stylistically the 2021s represent a significant departure from the past. Stem inclusion has come down to about 50% from the 90% or so that was once customary while the use of French oak has increased a touch. These choices along with the natural richness of 2021 yield a set of racy sleek Pinots that are pretty different in feel from those of the past. Last but certainly not least Kutch fans will not want to miss the 2021 Chardonnays which are positively stellar. - By Antonio Galloni on January 2023
