The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Village comes from three parcels. It has a pretty violet-tinged bouquet that is simple but effective well-defined with red cherries and kirsch. The palate is balanced with moderate weight pure red fruit with an appealing slightly tart finish. This punches above its weight. Savour this over the next 8-10 years. (Drink between 2024-2034)
Maison Drouhin’s 2021 Vosne-Romanée AC is another fine example in the making. The nose is a touch more reserved today than the Nuits villages bottling, but with a bit of coaxing offers up scents of dark berries, black cherries, Vosne spice, gamebird, dark soil tones, raw cocoa and a nice touch of cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely balanced, with good mid-palate depth, fine transparency and grip, fine-grained tannins and a long, promising finish. This too will be a lovely bottle in due course. (Drink between
This is the first wine to display any appreciable reduction and it's enough to overshadow the underlying fruit. More interesting are the fresh and bright middleweight flavors that possess a velvet textured mid-palate that contrasts somewhat with youthfully austere finish that displays excellent depth and persistence for its level. This is unusually good for its level and worth considering plus it should repay up to a decade of keeping. (Drink starting 2029)
The grapes from 1er Cru Chaumes were included and these were vinified as whole bunches. Mid crimson colour. The nose starts quietly but then begins to deliver. Lively fresh and nuanced with some spicy touches as well as the usual white pepper. Drink from 2025-2030.
