Decanter: 96 Points

A tasting through the different terroirs in this wine revealed a fresh intense highly structured year; not as generous as 2019 or 2020 certainly more austere and will take longer to come round. Many of the samples had an appealing floral expression occasionally with herbal nuances from the use of whole bunches and often really quite dark dense black fruit on the palate. Tannins while not green are decidedly tight and will take time to finesse. A vintage where patience is required and which I suspect will shut down shortly after bottling. (Drink between 2032-2045)

Vinous: 95 Points

The 2022 Côte-Rôtie is alluring and complex with ripe black fruit crushed violet iodine graphite and cedar notes alongside stemmy spicy hints. Medium-bodied yet markedly concentrated the 2022 shines with flawless elegance and an elongated expansive finish. Sleek tannins underpin this expressive Côte-Rôtie. This is a fantastic Jamet not to be missed by anyone fortunate enough to latch into a bottle. (Drink between 2029-2040)

Wine Advocate: 94 Points

Vinified with 100% whole bunches the 2022 Cote Rotie from Jean-Paul & Corinne Jamet reveals a dense deep and complex bouquet of violets mulberries flowers ripe dark wild berries and licorice all accented by delicate spicy undertones. Medium to full-bodied dense and structured it's tense with a fleshy core of fruit for a Côte Rôtie and a long spicy and fruity finish. This vintage stands out with its vibrant succulent acidity lending an ethereal quality to the wine and making it less austere than previous vintages. Perched at the summit of the appellation near the plateau this 8.7-hectare estate is revered by wine lovers for its adherence to the time-honored traditions of Côte-Rôtie winemaking yielding rich and characterful wines. The Jamets? estate scattered across 25 plots among the finest vineyards?such as Côte Rozier Le Plomb Chavariche and Côte Blonde mainly within the borders of Ampuis?practices viticulture rooted deeply in heritage. The vinification is similarly traditional using whole clusters and limiting the use of new oak to avoid obscuring the wine?s origin during an extended maturation in barrel. The Jamet family?s wines are full of youthful vigor yet also built to age with grace making it one of the appellation's quintessential benchmarks. Nonetheless the domaine evolves. In 2018 the La Landonne cuvée made from vines planted in 1987 was introduced. In 2015 Loïc Jamet joining forces with his father Jean-Paul ventured into producing Condrieu in amphorae and terracotta jars bringing forth delicate pure and ethereal whites. In my view the Côte Brune cuvée is a profound expression of Côte-Rôtie capturing the essence of this celebrated terroir. By contrast La Landonne presents a more brooding and austere profile that positions it for exceptional longevity. The 2022 vintage notable for its remarkably dense yet not overly heavy wines and its forceful yet finely balanced character is a testament to the estate?s ability to navigate climatic challenges with aplomb.
