Aromas of wild berries and plums mingled with hints of warm spices and rose petals introduce the 2020 Santenay 1er Cru Le Passetemps a full-bodied layered and concentrated wine with a velvety attack that segues into a deep multidimensional mid-palate. More primary than the Beaurepaire this will be less immediate and require at least a few years' patience.
The 2020 Santenay Le Passetemps 1er Cru, picked on September 1, is a blend of two blocks (though one block was degenerating due to the 101-49 rootstock). It has a well-defined bouquet of black cherry, blueberry and a touch of pressed violet, and an underlying crushed stone aroma develops in the glass. The palate is very smooth and harmonious, delivering a fine bead of acidity and a sensual, graphite-tinged finish. Excellent. (Drink between 2025-2040)
