Here too firm reduction dominates the fruit at present. Otherwise the markedly earthy big-bodied and almost painfully intense flavors flash imposing power on the driving and palate staining finish that delivers excellent length. Like the Les Rouges this is quite firmly structured and a wine that is going to need at least some cellaring first. (Drink starting 2034)
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques emerges from a tiny parcel planted in 1949. Dark and complex in its first impression the 2022 possesses notable fruit purity and a good bit of supporting structure despite its deceptively mid-weight feel. White pepper orange peel and tea leaves build in the glass leading effortlessly into the clean mineral-laced finish. A fine showing. - Antonio Galloni (Drink between 2025-2042)
