Javier Revert Description

Sensal is evolving to become Javi’s “Village” wine blended from several sites planted with Garnacha, Monastrell, Bonicaire, and Arcos. All the sites are situated around 700 meters above sea level near the village of Font de la Figuera in the Clariano sub-zone of Valencia. Sensal is made with partial whole-cluster fruit (usually greater than 50%), ferments with indigenous yeasts in amphorae and neutral French oak barrels, followed by aging in neutral French oak, amphorae, and glass demi-johns.

Wine Advocate: 94+ Points

The red 2023 Sensal comes from the lieu-dit or paraje Els Juncarejos and is a blend of four local varieties?Monastrell Bonicaire Arcos and Garnacha?from different plots old and young vines (more and more coming into production more coming in 2024 including some Forcallà). It was fermented by plot with a high percentage of full clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in concrete and 300-liter French oak barrels for 10 months. This cuvée that is growing as the young vines come into production. It showcases the style he's going for in the reds: white soils sand finesse full clusters except for the Monastrell (which he destems 70%) and longer macerations giving it a very fine thread in the palate where the tannins are very elegant. It has 13% alcohol a pH of 3.56 and 5.1 grams of acidity. This is one step up. 6500 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2024. Javi Revert planted another three hectares of Arcos close to Simeta in 2023 so he now has 12.42 hectares all in his village of La Font de la Figuera and a potential for 39000 kilograms of grapes and a theoretical 30000 bottles from the 2028 harvest. He produced 20000 bottles in 2024 coming up from the 15000 in 2023. After a very warm and dry 2022 2023 was saved by the rain at the end of August for him the new style of "cooler" Mediterranean vintages freshened up by the rain and he achieved wines with finesse and freshness. The 2023s have the advantage of a new barrel room at a constant 15 degrees Celsius and stable 80% humidity and the élevage is a lot more precise. Published: Jan 09 2025
