The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a quintessential wine from this property. Firm and classically built the 2019 exudes mountain energy. Dark cherry plum grilled herbs bay leaf incense licorice and tobacco all race across the palate. I would give this muscular Cabernet Sauvignon at least a few years to soften. It's pretty impressive in the early going. - By Antonio Galloni on April 2023 I missed Hanzell last year so this set of reviews essentially comprises two cycles of releases. Jason Jardine makes super-expressive wines at this historic Moon Mountain property. Readers will want to pay special attention to wines made from the original 1953 blocks (among the oldest if not oldest continually producing vineyards in the United States) and the small-lot experimental wines bottled under the Hanzell Farms sister label. All the wines are made with a light hand and emphasize freshness expression of place and variations in clones and élevage found in the Hanzell Farms selections.
