Mint and menthol aromas swirl around the core of cherry and strawberry in this linear well-structured red. There's nice viscosity and overall this is harmonious and complex. Iron tobacco and wild herb notes chime in for good measure. Energetic finish. Best from 2028 through 2047. ?B.S.
The 2020 Barolo Brunate is stellar. I especially admire its mix of soaring intensity and energy and yet the wine also remains light on its feet. Ethereal nuanced and classy the Brunate is a super-classic Barolo with the refinement of the present day. Dark fruit spice leather menthol and licorice build into the potent substantial finish with notes of minerals and blood orange that linger. - By Antonio Galloni on November 2023 Sisters Marta and Carlotta turned out a gorgeous set of 2020 Barolos that embody the style of the year nicely. The wines are aromatic gracious and super-expressive. I imagine the 2020s will drink well with minimal cellaring. Other than that not much has changed here in terms of how the wines are made. The Rinaldi sisters continue to honor their parents' legacies crafting wines that meld together old-school soul with contemporary touches of added precision. Sadly Brunate was damaged by frost in 2021 and required considerable replanting so Barolo production will dip for at least the next several years.
