Planted in 1982/83. Bright crimson colour with a lean almost acidulated nose a blackcurrant leaf reduction ? but note that this has only just been racked. Full of fruit a very sensual Corton (which is right for this side of the hill) and with a long stylish finish. Just the right acidity and only the finest of tannins.
The 2019 Corton Les Combes Grand Cru comes from a 0.5-hectare parcel located on the southern face of the hill. This has one of the more reduced aromatics of the range as it had been racked the previous week plus the temperature had dropped in the winery in the days preceding my visit. The palate is succulent on the entry featuring a well-defined and red cherry fruit. Nice grip here and sappy though I would like to see more finesse and persistence on the finish once in bottle.
