Jasper Morris: 97 Points

Attractive deep red colour. Ripe fresh and concentrated bouquet very high class. There is a sensational intensity of fruit here very pure all in red fruit sweet cherries balanced and long. The finish is exceptionally persistent this is harmonious and perfectly balanced. Tasted: September 2019.

The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a lucious slightly exotic nose that sports a metallic reduction. One hopes that it will dissipate with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit cranberry and red plum touches of orange rind and marmalade developing towards the finish that is one of the spiciest among the five Clos Saint-Jacques this year. It just seems to take its foot off the accelerator pedal in the glass. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2023 - 2045).

John Gilman: 94 Points

"With the shortened crop in Clos St. Jacques there is no Cuvée Centennaire here this year just a single truly lovely bottling of this great vineyard. The nose is pure nascently complex and very precise offering up scents of red plums cherries gamebird mustard seed a complex base of soil roses and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep full-bodied and classically structured with a sappy core excellent backend mineral drive ripe tannins and a very long vibrant and promising finish. 2030-2070."

Vines planted 1910. Tiny berries. Lost a little bit in 2016. Tank sample. Bright mid crimson. Very broad on the nose. Lifted and energetic with quite sharp elbows to it on the palate but a slightly smudgy indistinct nose. Transparent. Great combination of delicacy and integrity. Still a bit chewy on the end. Peacock?s tail on the end. (Drink between 2026 - 2042)/
