Exotic deep and beguiling the 2009 wafts from the glass with anise orange peel rosewater and ginger. Layers of dark red fruit unfold on the palate with total grace. In 2009 the Etichetta Nera is endowed with stunning depth and purity. The Etichetta Nera also appears to be a more complete and better balanced wine than the Etichetta Bianca. There is more than enough underlying structure to support the radiant expressive fruit. The 2009 should drink well for another decade or so perhaps longer. - By Antonio Galloni on March 2014 Ferrando is the reference-point producer in the tiny Carema appellation. In 2009 the flagship reds are quite a bit more open than they usually are which makes this a great vintage to explore the wines. I generally prefer the Etichetta Bianca which is aged in cask to the Etichetta Nera which is rendered in French oak but in 2009 the Etichetta Nera has the upper hand.
