The 2005 Le Mont Premier Trie is another magnificent bottle in the making. The stunning bouquet is a blend of orange, apple, pineapple, beautiful chalky soil tones and white flowers. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, very deep and seamless, with beautiful, brisk, framing acids, outstanding mid-palate depth and haunting balance and focus on the very, very long and primary finish. There may well be a bit more botrytis in the 2005 Le Mont Premier Trie than is the case with the Clos du Bourg Premier Trie, and this may be why this was served after the above wine. It will be fascinating to follow these two titans of the 2005 vintage over the next several decades. It may be left to my daughter’s generation to decide which of these two got the upper hand in this vintage. (Drink between 2020-2070)

Plump with mango date and green fig notes but also brightly detailed with persimmon ginger powder mineral and green tea notes. Mouthwatering acidity holds it all together and extends the lengthy finish. Shows a touch more bass than treble but still a classic. Drink now through 2028.
