The 2021 Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot comes across quite closed on the nose though Edouard Vocoret mentioned how this cuvée has closed down at the time of my visit. The palate is complex with touches of apricot and white peach plenty of minerals and flint focused with a long tail on the finish. This is apparently mercurial during its barrel maturation but this bodes well. (Drink between 2024-2040)

Wine Advocate: 89-91 Points

Notions of pear freshly baked bread citrus oil and white flowers preface the 2021 Chablis Bas de Chapelot a medium to full-bodied deep and layered wine that's concentrated and racy delivering the most mid-palate volume of the Vocorets' communal-level bottlings this year. Chablis may not be the most dynamic of Burgundy's subregions but Eleni and Edouard Vocoret are among the most ambitious new arrivals on the scene. I mentioned last year that the domaine's holdings were due to expand?now the details have been finalized and I can say that almost overnight this estate is about to become one of Chablis's more important addresses as the Vocorets have selected prime parcels in the best climats from the family holdings. I've been writing that this is an estate to follow closely since I began covering Burgundy for The Wine Advocate and this particular prophesy certainly appears to have been proved right. In 2021 however the range hadn't yet expanded so the wines reviewed here reflect the bottlings with which readers will already be familiar. As I've written before the Vocorets farm their vineyards without herbicides or pesticides and harvest by hand. In the cellar vinification is in tank followed by élevage in used barrels?very much in the mold of Vincent Dauvissat one of the young couple's mentors. Published: Jul 21 2022
