The Bourgogne Aligoté En Gerlieus 2022 comes as mentioned above from 40- to 100-year-old vines. This is a much more mineral-intense wine than the Mitancherie. The amphorae part is smaller in 2022 as the harvest was a lot bigger hence not really space enough in the jars. Amphora elevage normally adds an effortlessness to the wine a limitlessness that makes the feeling of the elevage container disappear. The barrel-fermented part adds edge and detail. The tremendous mineral feel of this terroir is perfect for the lush 2022. More generous this ?22 still shows vivid minerality. This is one of my favourite aligotés alongside Nicholas Faure?s Bully and two favourites from Chantereves. (Drink from 2025) ? Very Good+ ? (91-92p) ? Tasted 31/07/2023 ? Truly Emotional
jmFrom old vines on clay and limestone 50% 35 years old 50% 80 years old. Vines 7 km to the south of Maranges. No added SO2. Tank sample.Mid lemon. Lovely bright orchard fruit apples and a touch of quince. Lovely balance between ripe fruit and acidity showing how Aligoté is benefiting from a warming climate. This is lovely. En Gerlieux is across the river and canal from Sampigny in Chassey le Camp a big block that has both pinot and aligoté the latter as 35 and 90 year old vines. This began life in old barrels and 30% in an earthenware jar since racked to tank has not yet been sulphured and may not be. I am impressed with the potential from this plot. Fuller yellow and a light but irrelevant oxidation. This is more tightly knit loads of energy on the palate fruit concentration and better acidity a light healthy bitterness at the back.
