The nose and palate of the 2022 El Tamboril Tinto are really tight; it's a wine that needs more time (they reckon the 2016 is the one drinking well in 2024). It has a lot of energy and still has some creaminess and spiciness (from the élevage?). It has tons of fine tannins giving it a powdery dry texture. It fermented in concrete and oak trying not to extract fermenting with some juice without skins a super infusion with even less extraction than the others as it has natural power. It matured in a 10000-liter Stockinger oak foudre. 1334 bottles and 30 magnums were filled in May 2024. This is the wine in the portfolio that needs time in bottle. I tasted wines from 2022 (a more Mediterranean and intense year) and 2023 (a cooler year of elegance freshness and precision) with a perfect cool September and also rain that improved the quality of the year after a very warm August. 2022 is their last vintage of the El Reventón single-vineyard wine when they started planting new vines and building their new winery. 2023 is the first year vinified in the brand-new winery. There will be more changes in 2024: continuing the plantation of more vines downsizing (less regional wine and more village mostly from purchased grapes) and developing their farm in the estate around Rumbo al Norte. In 2022 they are extending the élevage of the single-vineyard crus Iruelas Umbrías Rey Moro and Rumbo al Norte. And they see the need for new projects in Gredos and to attract people to come and make wine in the region. They see it as a threat for the region. There are only 400 hectares in the DO Cebreros (42 hectares planted in the last five years nothing in the previous 40) but only 150 produced grapes last year. The Gredos region needs to be developed.
