Falstaff: Red-gold colour aroma of roasted chestnuts autumn leaves and acorns followed on the palate by intense and complex tarte tatin baked custard dark bitter honey agave and star anise. Textural and almost grainy quality as it becomes dense with some age. Generous and intense very long opening up over time with spicy and complex notes of aniseed Russian leather and the classic saffron note of Botrytis. RL Tasted January 2022
The 1999 d'Yquem is pale gold-amber in color. Fragrant notes of honey-drizzled pears apricot preserves grapefruit oil and candied orange peel slowly grow on the nose leading to touches of beeswax and mango pudding. The palate delivers intense dried citrus flavors with wonderful purity offset by a racy backbone finishing on a lingering honey-lemon note. The blend is 75% Semillon and 25% Sauvignon Blanc with 128 g/l residual sugar. Reviewed by: Lisa Perrotti-Brown Review date: 2024-06-20
