Successful the tannins are well pronounced and do a great job of showing off the fruit rather than closing it down. This is a big shouldered wine and no mistaking the Pauillac structure well balanced by concentrated brambled fruits rosemary spice and ripe but fresh aromatics. Not showing the enveloping feel of a 2010 and no need to wait too long to enjoy but it will soften further over the next few years and should give a good decade or so of drinking from here. Optical sorting since 2010. Harvest 12 to 28 September. 80% new oak. - Jane Anson

The black fruits that dominate the palate on this vintage are savoury slightly subdued so make sure you give them time to be coaxed out of the glass. As it opens a floral and chiselled Cabernet expression takes over with rose stems smoked earth and tight cassis fruits. This is a lovely wine that shows a more subtle side of Pauillac. Tannins remain young in that they are present at the forefront of the mouth pressing in and slightly austere but with juice on the finish and plenty of promise. Unrolls slowly and has decades ahead of it. 80% new oak. Jean-Rene Matignon technical director.

The 2011 Pichon-Baron has an impressive bouquet with intense mineral-driven black fruit cedar and a lovely marine influence that comes through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins very harmonious with a fine bead of acidity. Classy sophisticated this has plenty of breeding. Superb. This is perhaps the best bottle that I have encountered. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting. - By Neal Martin on September 2021

Shows a taut feel for now with lots of cassis and blackberry fruit lined with iron and bramble notes. Dark and well-toasted yet integrated overall this should stretch out after moderate cellaring as there's an ample core of dark fleshy fruit. Best from 2016 through 2028. 15000 cases made. ?JM

It?s drinking nicely today but will last for another two decades.
