The estate was founded by Giovanni Neri, a grain merchant from south of Florence, who purchased the 200 hectare Casanova farm on the eastern side of Montalcino in 1971. The first Brunello bottling was made that year but the first commercial release was produced in 1982. Giovanni’s son Giacomo took over in 1991 and he has now been joined by his own son Giovanni since 2012.
A Tenuta Nuova bottling was first produced from a newly acquired site south of town in 1993. A wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon was also made at this time and further acquisitions were made on the northern slopes. By 2015 the winery was sourcing grapes from six different vineyard locations.
\"This Brunello is a big opulent pleasure bomb with lavish layers loaded thickly on top of each other: Chocolate fudge dark cherry blackberry preserves rum cake prune exotic spice pipe tobacco cola humus and leather. It shows huge personality intensity and staying power too. All that density is backed by solid tannins and a steady firmness.\"
