This third flight comes to a rousing finish with the 2010 Barolo Otin Fiorin Piè Rupestris - Nebioli. A towering, statuesque Barolo, the 2010 dazzles from the very first taste. It is, of course, too young, but it is a wine I chose for this tasting because I wanted Vinous readers to have a chance to experience it. When all is said and done, 2010 is the greatest young vintage I have tasted at Cappellano. (October 2020)
A powerful, explosive wine, the 2010 Barolo Otin Fiorin Piè Rupestris-Nebioli captures all the pedigree of this great vintage. Huge tannins give the wine its distinctive, super-classic feel. Readers will have to be patient with the 2010, as it will need many years to be at its best. This is a terrific example of the vintage. (December 2017)
The 2010 Barolo Otin Fiorin Piè Rupestris-Nebioli is powerful and intense, but a distinctly more floral/savory edge than is typically the case. In other words, the 2010 Rupestris is quite Piè Franco-leaning in many of its inflections. Dark red cherry, plum, sage, tobacco, menthol and new leather are all pushed forward as this exquisite, regal Barolo shows off its remarkable pedigree. Expressive balsamic notes wrap around the fleshy, explosive finish laced with an extra kick of minerality. What a gorgeous wine this is. (March 2015)
