"It pours a bright yellow hue with a youthful tinge of green and is more complete on the nose with layered notes of lemon curd poached pear jasmine and salty earth. It?s medium to full-bodied with upfront salinity but has a weightless feel a clean decadent texture and a long finish."
Opulent but also elegant this wine is relatively light in body yet creamy and ethereal in texture. Meyer lemons meringue and vanilla bean flavors are layered lightly and lifted by energizing acidity. Very long and tasty in the finish. Drink now or hold. Jim Gordon Executive Editor
The 2021 Chardonnay Sigrid opens with a savory bouquet blending incense ginger dusty florals and hints of fleshly sliced peach. This is a model of refinement silky and sapid with tactile mineral tones offsetting its ripe white pit fruits as a core of stimulating acidity maintains marvelous freshness. There's so much complexity here as the 2021 finishes long with a lingering salinity perfectly balanced by a tinge of candied citrus and hints of young kiwi. - By Eric Guido on January 2024 While many wineries in Oregon have moved to a more fruit-driven and accessible style of Pinot Noir Josh Bergstrom of Bergström Wines did the opposite looking to maintain finesse communicate terroir and create wines that excite upon release but stand the test of time. Just one taste of the Cumberland Reserve Pinot Noir his ?entry-level? or introduction to the brand is enough to impress even the most demanding customers. Bergstrom farms 70 acres of estate vineyards using biodynamic principles and prefers to let the vines speak through the use of 100% whole cluster fermentation. Moreover oak remains low less than 20% new often down to 10%. Josh Bergstrom commented ?We pick a lot earlier than most of our neighbors.? It shows in their average alcohol ranging from 12.7 - 13.2% yet there?s plenty of vivid fruit and energy to contend with in every bottle. The 2021s at this address are a huge success but most will require cellaring to really shine. On the horizon the 2022s will be limited as 70% of the Chardonnay and 20% of their Pinot Noir was lost to frost.
The 2021 Chardonnay Sigrid is bright and crystalline offering scents of Meyer lemon almonds meringue and flint. The palate is surprisingly powerful! It explodes with concentrated apple and almond layers while its firm linear acidity provides tension. It has a very long mouthwatering finish and will benefit from 2-3+ years in bottle.
