Vinous: 97 Points

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a rich bouquet with plenty of fruit and perhaps the greatest presence of the five CSJ although Fourrier's has greater delineation and precision. The oak is more noticeable although it is still proportionate to the fruit. The palate is very well balanced with fine depth and precision. Harmonious and palpably energetic on the finish this is from the top-drawer and it will continue to age for many years. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2028 - 2055).

Wine Advocate: 95-97 Points

Powerful and dramatic Rousseau's 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques bursts from the glass with aromas of dark berries cassis and plums mingled with notions of grilled meats dark chocolate exotic spices and loamy soil?all framed by cedary new oak. Medium to full-bodied deep and concentrated it's layered and elegantly muscular with a deep core of fruit powdery tannins and bright acids. Published: Jan 14 2021

Burghound: 96 Points

Here too there is just enough wood to warrant mentioning framing the exceptionally spicy red berry fruit and floral-suffused aromas. There is fine density to the sleekly muscular and intense flavors that are blessed with fine mid-palate concentration on the tightly wound and sneaky long finish that is both balanced and notably firm and which should enable this to evolve and improve for at least two decades. There is a hint of warmth but it's not enough to really detract from the overall sense of harmony. In a word impressive. (Drink starting 2036).

Jasper Morris: 95 Points

A solid deep magenta colour. Warm deep an initially welcoming heady fruit. This seems maybe a little smudged perhaps a whisper too much alcohol. Blackcurrant and brambles with a fresher feel behind but not completely harmonious. The length picks up the quality of the vineyard. A slightly awkward showing today which may refine later.
