The 2013 Meursault Blagny 1er Cru has a reserved limestone almost flinty bouquet that is keeping everything under wraps for now. The palate is fresh and crisp with a Coche-like reduction lending complexity toward the finish. There is very good weight here and excellent salinity on the finish. Let?s see what it can do once that reduction ebbs. I have been remiss in omitting Domaine François Jobard in recent reports. I started visiting this Meursault producer tucked just behind Domaine des Comtes-Lafon on the fringe of the village almost a decade ago when François had to suffer my terrible French. Now his son Antoine Jobard suffers the same indignity though my French has apparently improved. It has been three or four years since I last tasted with Antoine and my memories were of a young man learning the ropes from his father. Now he comes across as a fully-fledged fully-formed winemaker and just like Jobard père he is furnishing wine lovers with what I regard as some of the best Meursault out there. He picked his 2013s September 26 - October 3 and racked once last September before the 2014 harvest. He will rack once again before bottling in July (the domaine has always undertaken a 20-22 month élevage.) Antoine enthused about the quality of the 2013s praising the acidity and the gras-like personalities of his wines. There certainly form an impressive bunch standouts being a marvellous Meursault Genevrières that is underpinned by fabulous mineralité flanked by a heavenly Meursault Charmes (incidentally I prefer this to the single barrel of Meursault Perrières that is raised from purchased must.) It was good to see Antoine Jobard and see for myself that with the passing of one generation to another the wines have gone from strength to strength. Published: Jun 28 2015

(from a healthy crop of 50 hectoliters per hectare as there was no hail damage here according to Jobard; aged in 20% new oak): Pale yellow. Yellow fruits menthol honey and stone on the nose. Not a particularly fruity style but shows good fat and surprising cut to its orange juice pear and mineral flavors not to mention an attractive sugar/acid balance and very good length. Half of these vines were replanted to Chardonnay in 2009 while the other half date back to 1955.

The 2013 Meursault “Blagny” from the Jobard family is a very good bottle in this vintage, but in their stunning lineup of the best premier crus in Meursault, the Blagny always seems just a touch more four-square in personality than it probably would, if it were not flanked by Poruzots, Genevrières, Charmes and now Perrières! The 2013 offers up a fine nose of apple, pear, hazelnut, lovely minerality, vanillin oak and a fine topnote of orange zest. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and again, very minerally in personality this year, with a fine core, good focus and grip and a long, snappy and nascently complex finish. A fine vintage for this consistent bottling chez Jobard. (Drink between 2018-2040)
