The floral perfumed and expressive 2019 Cardia Pombeiras was produced with Mencía from 40-year-old vines on slate soils 0.16 hectares. It fermented with some 30% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in used French oak barrels for under a year. It has elegance nuance and a lifted nose and is quite showy with a velvety palate with vibrant flavors a very fine thread and a tasty dry and long finish. 600 bottles were filled in November 2020. Danish wine importer Martin Damm created Adega Damm in Doade in the Ribeira Sacra in 2017. He has vineyards in Doade (Pombeiras and Ladredo) and one hectare in Amandi where he also rents a further four hectares. As he imports wines from Burgundy into his country he gets used oak barrels from Pierre-Yves Colin and Denis Bachelet which he uses to mature his wines. He produces 7500 to 8000 bottles but hopes to reach 15000. The wines are surprisingly good perhaps a too wide range of very small cuvées that are quite similar and it takes time to understand the differences. A name to watch. Some wines are sold with the Ribeira Sacra appellation and others without it.
