Oregon Chardonnay, specifically from the Willamette Valley, is a very, very high quality category that is worthy of the finest cellars and wine lists around the globe. 

The growth boom in high quality Chardonnay is lead by several today with a one man show in Seth Long of Morgen Long that has gone all-in producing only Chardonnay in a Pinot Noir dominated region. 

Seth is one of those individuals who is reshaping the perception, quality and dedication to producing world class Chardonnay in Oregon today. John Gilman dubbed Seth the Roulot of American and the analogy made several years ago is just as appropriate today. The 2022 Vintage is stellar from Seth. It is a vintage that showcases experience and refined evolution in the wines.

The 2022 vintage is pure Morgen Long rather than any inclination of emulation. These are wines that have evolved to show a bit more texture, weight and depth. The gorgeous and vibrant freshness and acidity that we have come to expect from these wines is here in spades, bringing about phenomenal balance and character in the wines. The range of Morgen Long presents precision, concentration and most importantly consistency. 

Fans of Seth´s wines already know the quality and have seen the increasing demand in the marketplace. Last year the Wine Advocate´s Erin Brooks reviews sent collectors around the world scouring for the wines due to the compelling reviews of the 2021 and 2020 vintages with basically every wine being rated 94 to 99 points. 

These are Chardonnay qualitatively akin to the wines of Walter Scott and 00 Wines, yet very much their own style and expression. Morgen Long has a kiss of reduction on the wines and an attack on the palate that is a bit more linear and taunt. These are mineral focused wines whose core of fruit has crystal-like purity. For us, the blended cuvées are where Seth excels. The combination of Seven Springs and X-Omni in the blends is what creates this beautiful tension and textures in the Willamette Valley and Eola-Amity Hills cuvées. Of course the single vineyard wines are great and a beautiful exploration of “terroir” and site across the Willamette Valley.
