Epic Story and History
Bodega Chacra is perhaps the most consistent and greatest value Pinot Noir. The string of phenomenal wines no matter the vintage is mind-boggling. This property with its all-star team has aged into one of the finest estates for Pinot Noir, anywhere on the planet. Press and praise aside, the proof is in the consumer demand - your demand. You know as well as we do that these wines deliver a quality, affordability and drinkability factor unlike any other.
Nearly twenty years ago, Piero Incisa della Rocchetta embarked on a wine adventure like none other in Patagonia. Coming from the family that created Sassicaia, there were a lot of high expectations. He has surely succeeded in meeting those expectations because Bodega Chacra has become one of the most prized and coveted Pinot Noir estates outside of Burgundy. The quality, consistency, and caliber of Piero’s wines are absolutely outstanding. It is no wonder that Chacra has legions of fans across the globe and is championed by leading wine critics Luis Gutierrez of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and James Suckling.
Devoted to Pinot Noir, Piero did not embark on making white wine until six years ago. Enter, Jean-Marc Roulot.
Piero and Jean-Marc are colleagues and friends. Piero was researching and speaking with others about the possibility of producing Chardonnay at his estate in Patagonia. After a few years of casual friendly conversations with Piero on the subject, Jean-Marc finally put Piero on the spot and asked him “when are you going to ask me to make a wine with you?”
For Piero, it was not about just making a wine and getting assistance from a Meursault Master for a few vintages. For Piero it was about creating a new project, a collaboration that would have a beginning point that would build on itself vintage after vintage.
Bodega Chacra Chardonnays are a partnership between Incisa and Roulot. It is a true partnership that allows these passionate, gifted and talented vignerons to experiment and craft one of the most spectacular Chardonnays from anywhere in the world.
It has been an exciting privilege to see Bodega Chacra grow into one of the most inspiring wineries of our time. Piero’s dedication and passion for producing balanced, approachable yet age worthy wine with modest alcohol is transparent at first sip. The consistency is marvelous and unlike anything we have seen in Burgundy or California today. Not to mention the affordability and the fact that the wines age tremendously well.
Cheers,
