Bordeaux Super Seconds Bordeaux is full of tremendous properties and wines. The rating system set forth in 1855 is still applied today in terms of rating a Chateaux “Growth” status. However, we know that overtime that all of Bordeaux has increased dramatically in quality and thus the term was coined “Super Seconds” to highlight the Second Growth wines that consistently perform at the “First Growth” level. Today, the biggest names of Bordeaux are consistently the top performers of a vintage and the most collectible of wines. The Second Growths have become synonymous with the best of the best. In the 2020 vintage it is inherently clear that these properties produced some of the finest wines of the vintage. Included in the Super Seconds, you have to include Chateau Palmer, while technically a Third Growth, Palmer is without a question one of the finest estates of Margaux and worthy of the quality comparisons. When it comes to looking at these wines as collectibles or wines to cellar for future drinking or drinking now; these properties represent some of the finest Cabernet based wines of anywhere in the world for the price. These are the classics and the great with reason, they are delicious now but will reward us all for the next 50 years to come. Cheers, |
