Wine Advocate: 93-95 Points

The 2022 Santenay 1er Cru Les Gravières is terrific wafting from the glass with notes of yellow orchard fruit pear and ripe citrus mingled with buttery pastry and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied satiny and chiseled it's deep and concentrated with a racy spine of acidity and a long intensely mineral finish. As readers may remember this cuvée derives exclusively from Vincent's high-density plantings at 17000 vines per hectare located at the northern end of this large premier cru where the soils are richer in active calcium and better adapted to Chardonnay. In the August 2021 Week 2 Issue of The Wine Advocate I devoted a feature to the wines and work of Jean-Marc Vincent so I direct readers to that piece rather than attempt to reprise all its minutiae here. High-density plantings of massal selections high canopies that are either hedged late or interwoven by hand soils cultivated using small caterpillar-tracked engines instead of tractors long macerations with significant percentages of whole bunches and long élevage on the lees?these are just some of the pieces of the puzzle. If Jean-Marc's 2020s set a new benchmark for contemporary Santenay his 2022s come close to rivaling them: complex textural whites of substance and structure and serious sapid reds that will reward patience. Vinous: 91-93 Points

The 2022 Santenay Blanc Les Gravières 1er Cru comes from a high-density massal selection vineyard planted in 2018 at 17000 vines per hectare. The bouquet is harmonious but a little closed at this juncture due to the recent SO2 addition. The palate is elegant and focused not as deep as the Beaurepaire with touches of lemongrass developing with time in the glass. The well-balanced palate is focused perhaps without quite the same mineralité as the Beaurepaire spicy towards the finish. Give this two or three years in bottle. (Drink between 2024-2036)

Jasper Morris: 90-93 Points

Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet suggests an elegance and class but is not demonstrative apart from a light yeasty touch. High class in the mouth reflecting the fossil rich limestone soil which gives the exciting racy class to the wine.

Wine Hog: 91-93 Points

Moving to the vineyard I know best in Santenay Les Gravieres which is on the Chassagne side and low on the slo
