Cellar/Tasting Notes
Krug is the Champagne connoisseur's brand, and their Grande Cuvee Champagne NV is their flagship bottling. Complex, subtle and displaying nuanced levels of flavor and aroma, it makes a perfect aperitif -- one to be savored on its own -- or paired with a wide range of dishes. Wine Enthusiast (WE): 95 "Resplendent in its new shiny gold label, Krug is a majestic Champagne. Its velvet texture, dominated by mature flavors, is toasty and rich, dense and complex. In the mouth, its beautiful roasted almond, spice and ripe pears all balance impressively. Could the wine be getting even better? No question-this is still one of the greatest nonvintage Champagnes." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (RP): 95 "The Grande Cuvee (disgorged 1998) is scented of croissant, buttered cinnamon toast and warm strawberries with a hint of smoky bacon. Muscular and still very taut in the mouth, the densely packed flavors are refreshed with a pure, crisp acid line. It finishes long with plenty of toast and nut layers." Wine Spectator (WS): 95 "Very fine on the palate, with a lovely texture, carrying layered flavors of patisserie pear, dried apricot, smoked almond, crystallized honey and a hint of kumquat. Vibrant and mouthwatering, featuring a long finish of ground cumin and ginger." |
