Named for Joe Donelan's two sons, The Two Brothers is the vineyard's version of the most ethereal varietal on the planet. While more fruit forward (and brambly fruit at that) than the 2010, there is a dimension of purity and freshness to the fruit that is very compelling. There is a hint of spice which is more cedar-like and cardamom-like but the wine has supple, energetic texture and combines juiciness and minerality.
The 2011 Pinot Noir Two Brothers, tasted from barrel, is hugely promising. There is a level of purity in the fruit that is simply beautiful. The style is a bit exuberant for the year, but all the elements are very much in balance. A blast of sweet red cherries, dried flowers and sweet spices flow through to the soft, enveloping finish.
