Cellar/Tasting Notes
Gorgeous Textbook Cabernet wine, a real Napa gem. We get to taste a lot of wine; a lot of good wine, a lot of fair wine and a lot of why would I drink that? wine. When we taste a wine that makes our eyes light up, we are on to something and that’s what this Textbook Cab did. All our eyes lit up! We pegged it at around $35 - one of us said he would pay $40 and be happy. So, be very happy – it’s simply gorgeous wine and at $23.45 – it’s a steal!
Textbook is a tiny winery where David Ramey is the consulting winemaker. Only 700 cases of this wine were made, almost all of it sold in California.
Winery notes:
The fruit was sourced from both the estate in Oakville as well as from two stellar sources in Yountville and Spring Mountain (Napa). The wine is a blend of 93% Cabernet and 7% Merlot, and was aged for 17 months in French Oak. The wine is lush, and flavorful on both nose and palate. Classic Bordelaise winemaking, classic Napa in flavor! Due to small, concentrated berries, the wine has an intense color. The mid-palate is loaded with bright black currant and a hint of coffee flavors. A touch of Merlot added the right amount of acidity to make this a well-balanced wine. The finish lingered for a long time, and its silky tannins should allow this puppy to age nicely for some years to come. When drinking young, please decant and let it breathe for 2-3 hours.
