The 2006 Carbonnieux presents with open and vibrant aromas. It initially reveals toasted aromas with red fruit and black cherry. When the wine is swirled, spicy and somewhat smoky aromas dominate the fruit. Full-bodied and pleasant on the palate, the wine is bold initial, well-balanced, with backbone and a powerful tannic structure. The wine has a long finish, with fullness and aroma, dominated by red fruit. The general harmony of this wine lies in the balance between the freshness of its aromas and its powerful, yet young tannins.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (RP): 90-92
"One of the most dramatic improvements in Bordeaux is what proprietor Tony Perrin has accomplished with Carbonnieux's red wine program. The whites have always been among the leaders of the appellation, but he has built more fruit, body, and texture into the reds over recent vintages. Another unequivocal success, the 2006 offers creme de cassis, kirsch, and subtle smoke characteristics in a medium-bodied, pure, elegant style. With lovely texture, sweet tannin, and a savory, long finish, it should offer delicious drinking after 3-4 years of bottle age, and will keep for 15+ years."
