Cellar/Tasting Notes
Villa Russiz is one if Collio's stars…For the past few years we have been stocking their dynamite Sauvignon Blanc – this year it was the Pinot Bianco that knocked-us-over!
Pinot Bianco (Pinot Blanc) is often regarded as Chardonnay's understudy like Chardonnay it produces a similar medium to full-bodied, round wine with good acidity, and responds well to oak maturation.
Collio's reputation for high-quality white wines is totally justified, in fact it is arguably Friuli-Venezia Giulia's top-ranking DOC.
Villa Russiz is one of Collio's stars – started in 1869, the vineyards were the first under authentic French rootstock, on some of the best hillside marls in the entire appellation – where the sea breezes from the nearby Adriatic temper the cool winds from the Julian Alps. The winery itself was meticulously planned, with its underground structure and great vaulted ceilings that stand to this day.
